Disembark and continue by road to Chau Doc. Pass by Tra Su cajuput forest, an important ecological wetland, which has become one of the most popular sites in the Mekong Delta. Depending on the season, you may see many unique water birds, colonies of bats, various rare animal and bird species. Take a motorized boat ride, a relaxing walk under the green canopy and listen to the whisper of nature.

Tips: It is recommended to visit Tra Su in the afternoon when more birds are returning to their habitat.
Check-in at the hotel at Chau Doc.

Optional visit: Ba Chuc Memorial and Phi Lai Pagoda – Vietnamese “killing fields”. This visit is optional, possible to do before heading to Tra Su, if guests are interested, to learn more about this shocking event and pray for the victims of the Khmer Rouge. The memorial in the center of the village pays homage to 3,157 massacred villagers, most of whom were clubbed to death in a period of two weeks in April 1978. Many of the victims were killed in the adjacent Phi Lai Pagoda, where bloodstains on the walls and floor can still be easily seen. Between the memorial and the pagoda, there is a small room where a horrific set of black-and-white photos taken just after the massacre shows buckled, abused corpses, scattered around the countryside. Some of the images on display are extremely disturbing and you should not enter if you are a sensitive type.

Day 4: Chau Doc (B/L/D)

Day 5: Chau Doc - Sa Dec - Ho Chi Minh (B/L)

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel, leave Chau Doc for a long drive back to Ho Chi Minh City (or you can continuing to Phnom Penh – Cambodia).

A cluster of brick and tile kilns on the riverbank announces your arrival in the charming town of Sa Dec. Stop by for some visits. French novelist Marguerite Duras lived here as a child and decades later, the town’s stuccoed shop-house terraces, riverside mansions and remarkably busy stretch of the rumbling Mekong provided the backdrop for the film adaptation of her novel “The Lover”. Visit Huynh Thuy Le old villa, where the family of Duras’ character lived. It’s worth wandering along Nguyen Hué, which shaded lanes hide Sa Dec’s extensive riverside market, as well as the former home of Duras’ lover.

Continue to Cao Lanh, and complete this unique exploration tour with a visit to Xeo Quyt. Xeo Quyt is an old base, with its preserved underground house, stores, secret tunnel. Here, you can feel the scenes of a tough life, resistance, and intelligence of Vietnamese rebels during French and American wars.
